meee too! occasionally, but I also have to use quite a lot of the contraction and relaxation of my lower extremities to get to places. Chariots around here don't really go that far.

No garage (though I started house hunting this weekend), how about a driveway.

In all curiosity how is the trans in the GT? I've heard good and bad. Mostly that it's not fast enough to shift under high load but others say elsewise. And I take it it has on demand shifting as well correct?

Corvette insurance might be cheaper (not joking), but the S197 Mustang has a nicer interior than the C5. Mustangs are probably cheaper to modify, too. Not sure what you're getting for fuel economy, but when I'm driving like a responsible human adult I get about 24.5 mpg combined. To be honest, at the end of the day I like both Mustangs and Corvettes equally! I say go drive a few and see what you think. Either way, you've got a great hoon-mobile!

It's called Mystic Teal. Rare color that came on 4th Gen Camaros. It's called blue/green chameleon on Trans Ams. It changes color depending on the angle you look at it and brightness outside. I've had the car since 1987. It's my first car.

Here is the fleet(truck is a bit more re-assembled now). Right now every thing is out in the driveway because right now the garage is full of truck parts, and the latest piece removes any tiny chance of getting anything in there.

They're actually both targas, the painted roof on the silver car throws a lot of people off! I actually have a hard time stomaching the look of the FRC, otherwise I'd have bought a Z06!
Stupidru
> Rock Bottom
06/09/2014 at 11:11 | 0 |
Wow, it definitely threw me off too! I have to say the FRC is not my favorite look and I'd rather have a targa, but they seem to be the red-headed stepchild (and cult classic) of the Vette lineup, so it might be my only option as an entry into eventual Corvette ownership

I've never driven an FRC, but people who have say it's much more lively than the coupe. I guess they have an additional chassis gusset behind the driver that stiffens the rear end a bunch. I'd like to drive them back to back to see for myself! And you're right about the cult-classic status. The FRC body style is pretty rare and definitely has a loyal following. It would probably be a reasonable investment if you planned to keep the car for a while.

I'm still relatively young (25) so my next car purchase is either going to be a better DD (looking at a Focus ST or a 2011 WRX hatchback) or a dedicated summer car like a Vette. I figure the car I have now realistcally still has at least another 100k miles left on it, and the Vette has already reached probably >75% of its depreciation, so picking one up wouldn't be such a terrible idea

I am intimately familiar with the ST brothers... buy the Fiesta ST instead... seriously...
As far as C5s go, they're getting pretty cheap and enough of them have been modified (and blown up) that their weak-points are pretty well known. Turns out they're not exactly Civic reliable, but they're nowhere near as bad as most high-end European cars... As an only car, they're a little hard to deal with. For example, I do a fair amount of mountain biking and there's NO WAY I'd want to jump in my Corvette after getting muddy on the trails, even if I had an acceptable way of mounting the bike to the car. Also, if I know I'm going someplace with truly diabolical parking, I have a real hard time taking the Corvette into the mouth of the beast. I keep a beater XJ for that kind of stuff!

I've got a 13 year old Subaru that I keep as my DD which I can fit my 29er in the back of (barely, but it fits!) and take my dog with me. The Fiesta would be on top of the Focus, but I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to fit my mtb in the back of the Fiesta. I suppose I could take the front wheel off or get a hitch for my hitch rack. The Vette would only be for 3-season commuting and a few AutoX events whenever I find time

You've got almost everything a true hooligan needs! Keep punishing your bike like it kicked your dog, keep the Subaru and rock it 'till the wheels fall off, and buy a cheap Corvette for fun!

Yeah, I learned a big lesson that day in applying the proper torque to lug nuts. When your car feels like King Kong is dancing on the hood of your car, pull over! I wish I had the photo, but the brake rotor spun around the inside of the wheel and eventually punctured it. Luckily that let all the air out so the wheel took one big bounce and then just rolled to the median. I was incredibly lucky that my stupidity didn't kill or injure anybody else
